When you think of Jim Thompson, one would normally think of the retail shop selling clothing and home furnishing. A few of my friends were also under the impression that the Jim Thompson at Dempsey Hill is a retail shop. But no, it houses the only restaurant Jim Thompson has in Singapore.
Jim Thompson is a Thai restaurant in a beautiful colonial bungalow with stunning interiors. It serves more than 80 classic Thai dishes, including appetizers, spicy salads, soups, curries, main dishes, seafood, barbeque, noodles, desserts and more. Menu is pork-free.
The service isn’t warm and it’s a bit spotty. Prices are on the high side too. However, the food was not bad with more hits than misses.
The green curry prawns were superb with the right balance of heat and sweetness.
The soft shelled crabs fried with eggs in yellow curry was somewhat a let down. It was plain and the taste of the crabs were masked by the egg.
The pomelo salad was good while the rest of the appetizers were a let down. The beef skewers were tasty but tough while the deep fried seafood tasted bland.
The desserts were generally good, especially the taro dumplings.
